JSI is the leading Slovene research organization covering a broad spectrum of basic and applied research in natural sciences and technology.

The Department of Digital Communications and Networks has been involved in international projects on satellite communications concentrating on modulation and coding techniques, development of the baseband part of the satellite land mobile system demonstrator, design of an integrated non-geostationary space terrestrial broadband network for fixed/mobile user multimedia services, the inter-segment handover management in the global mobile broadband system, and more recently, adaptive packet-oriented routing in satellite networks with intersatellite links.

They are also involved in COST 272, COST 273 and COST 279 actions and in HeliNet.

As part of CAPANINA, JSI will lead the work on "Communications Links", contributing specifically in networking, QoS, standards, and radio interface.
